Weekend Update III
This weekend my extremely hard-working brothers came over to help me demolish the old deck. Remember back in April I started working on the back yard, killing weeds etc.. and that weed killer sure is awesome because I only have a handful of weeds/grass trying to sprout back (I’ll be heading back out this week to spray them away!).
Anyway, the deck has been bad and getting worse, basically falling apart in front of my very eyes. It was getting to the point where I was afraid one of the dogs would get hurt by a broken board or getting their foot stuck. Some really good friends have some deck pieces I can use, so basically all I had to do was get rid of the old deck, get the ground prepped and support beams/joists in and I could have a super awesome deck for much (MUCH) cheaper than if I had to buy all the materials.
So I finally had the guys over and they did an awesome job. It took less than an hour, we only had one (minor) injury and now my deck is gone, wood is loaded up to take to the dump and more is waiting in the wings for either a 2nd dump run, or for neighborhood pick up day. All I had to do was make them dinner and lots of popcorn (and have a big bowl of candy) and play three Harry Potter movies. Talk about good service!
Unfortunately my pictures of Joe and Andrew didn’t really turn out, BUT trust me – they worked just as hard and were a huge asset to the project.

After we finished, the dogs went out to check out what the heck happened to their yard.

Good work! Isn’t great to see progress on projects?!
Yay! Are you planning on recreating the deck you just tore out, or will the new deck be different? Projects are a pain while they’re in progress, but once they are done it is an awesome feeling!
It’s going to take up the same space as the other, and then extend all the way to the retaining wall behind the house.
So it’ll be significantly larger – which will be great but will require a lot more prep work. We have to dig holes for the cement supports and then put all the beams in and then the easy part is screwing in all the deck pieces.
