‘Magical’ Fireworks Show

There were so many special moments, and I couldn’t even begin to write about them all. I took hundreds of photos but my very favorites are the ones below. Naomi was nervous about meeting characters, but when she saw the Fairy Godmother at breakfast, she was completely at ease and loved talking to her. Then when we met the Princesses.. the photos speak for themselves. She ran to each of them, hugged them, then talked their ears off. These were truly magical moments I will never forget.

I’ve been told many, many, MANY times I need to add some color to my house and this weekend I thought I’d get started on just that. I’ve been working on several projects on the house – taking out a wall, pulling up carpet, etc.. and a lot of that is still “work in progress” so photos will come as I get to finishing those projects. That said, please forgive the walls and floor in these photos!

When we took the wall out, I moved the tv from where it was to the new nook created in the living room. This left a nice window area and I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. I wanted a window seat but they are extremely expensive. And then I found some ideas on Google, ran to Ikea and Joann’s and shortly after…

I picked Ikea’s STUVA storage bench because I wanted something with space to store pillows (otherwise the dogs get them) and the kid’s toys. I originally planned to put pillows on top and leave it at that, but then I decided to go a little further…

I upholstered my own seat cushions by using some extra wood boards, foam and fabric. It was extremely easy and I think it looks fantastic. Eventually I want to sew a slipcover so it’s removable (read: washable!), but for now this will do. I will also use velcro to attach the cushion to the bench.

Both of them used the Expedit bookcase, but I wanted something a little taller and with bigger storage space. It’s essentially the same idea, but since mine is two shorter pieces, I chose to do two cushions instead of one long cushion on top.

I’m really happy with it and amazed how quick it was to put together. The pop of color is really nice, too!

I’ve just been busy.

One of the things keeping me busiest is work. In February we had a big event that kept me working overtime and then had me in San Francisco for a few days. Here are pictures of my view in day and night:
